Rocky Fork Socks
Can you believe that we are already over halfway through the year? This one seems to be flying even faster than usual. Even though we're in the throes of high summer heat, fall seems like it's just around the corner. Sometimes it feels a little bit daunting to pick up a sweater project in this weather, but another way to get prepped for fall is by working on the smaller projects you'll need - like socks! I've been working up Rocky Fork Socks through several heat waves that have hit us here in Ohio and it's definitely been the right kind of project to work on!
Rocky Fork Socks feature a traveling ribbed detail at the cuff, followed by lots of stockinette for an easy and quick knit. These socks are knit from the cuff down with a traditional heel flap and gusset in fingering weight yarn. You might recognize the stitch pattern - it matches the yoke design of my Rocky Fork Pullover from 2017! I love how repeating the stitch pattern from front to back creates a dynamic side view at the mirror point. Each of the 5 sizes has a slightly different look at the side of the cuff - illustrations are included to show you exactly what to expect for your size!
I used Fangirl Hand Dyed Superwash Sock for these socks. I purchased this yarn last year when I was in Traverse City, MI and visited the nearby Wool & Honey yarn shop. I was enamored by the almost abalone shell look of the Siren Song colorway, and wanted to support a local Michigan dyer when I was visiting. This is a classic merino/nylon sock blend that makes for a great easy-care sock. I know that hand washing & drying your socks will make them last a lot longer, but this is one area of my wool care that I just don't follow best practices - I machine wash cold, tumble dry low and my 75/25 socks reliably hold up well!
