Baltic Amber Mitts

It's mid-November and we are quickly headed towards the holidays, starting with Thanksgiving in the US and then into winter celebrations as we head into December. Somewhere in there, I'll be welcoming a new little one into my family - theoretically I have a little over 2 weeks left but we all know that babies make their own plans. Normally this time of year I am focused on sweater knitting because we are hitting prime cozy season. But this year, I've really only been able to keep focused on smaller projects. Little things for the baby of course, but also little things for me! Right now is perfect weather for fingerless mitts - it's not too cold yet to need fully covered fingers, and you can always curl up your fingers into the mitts when the wind picks up.

Baltic Amber Mitts feature a textured slip-stitch pattern that will spice up any fall outfit. The pattern is worked throughout the entire hand (no worry about mixing up right and left mitts!) with a comfortable garter stitch thumb gusset. There are two sizes so you can knit just the right fit. I made the size small for my pair!

I used Knotty Pine Fiber Co. Bighorn Sock in the Bronzed Mums colorway - a truly perfect fall color. These mitts work up with less than half a skein of fingering weight yarn. I made another pair of mitts with this yarn last year, and I still have a bit of a skein leftover (probably plenty for some baby socks)! This is a great way to use up a partial skein leftover from a fingering weight sweater, or know that you'll be able to get two full pairs of mitts from a single skein. I do recommend choosing a tonal or solid fingering weight yarn to best show off your stitches - but this stitch pattern will also work well with a more rustic woolen spun yarn to create an extra cozy look!
