Balsam Point Mitts
It's officially spring! The seasons changed with the equinox last week, but the weather of course keeps dipping back into winter. We even had a little bit of snow yesterday and is dropping into the low 20s again tonight. I always make sure to have a pair of fingerless mitts anywhere I go during springtime because they are so perfect for these weather fluctuations. Balsam Point Mitts are my current go-to pair, thanks to the springy color and fun geometric design.
This is the 3rd design in my Balsam Point series - don't miss the Hat, Cowl, and Sock patterns that area already out! I played with it a little bit differently for the mitts, with the double zig zag at the cuff and diamonds at the top of the hand. Like the other designs, the angled stitches are created with 1x1 cable twists that don't require a cable needle! As always, the pattern includes both charted and fully written out instructions. Don't miss video tutorial for the right and left twist stitches if you haven't worked up these twists before!
I used Knotty Pine Fiber Co. Bighorn Sock for these mitts in the Echeveria colorway. I bought this yarn last year when Kayla released her spring collection! I am always a sucker for a good green and this one did not disappoint. This is such a lovely yarn for mitts - it is soft and springy, and has a touch of nylon for durability. You could definitely use your leftovers in a pair of stripy socks! When choosing your own yarn, solids and semi-solids are going to show off the twisted stitches in this pattern best. Heathers, marls, and highly variegated colors are probably going to hide the stitch pattern. Be sure to use the mini-swatch tip included in the pattern so you can check to see if you will like your color choice before casting on!
