Andiron Cardigan

It's April and officially spring with all of the trees in full bloom - my garden is finally starting to wake up from dormancy too. Even with the warmer weather, mornings and evenings can still be chilly. I regularly find myself reaching for a jacket or cardigan when going on evening walks. Andiron Cardigan is my new favorite to grab before heading out the door. The styling feels very refined - almost like a blazer - so I always feel so put together when wearing!

Andiron Cardigan features lots of texture with an all over knit-purl pattern and elegant cables running along the center front edges. Deep garter stitch trims lend the style a jacket-like feel, and with the comfort of a sweater you’ll be throwing this on over every outfit. Instructions are included to adapt the cardigan into a vest if that’s more your style! Choose a solid or semi-solid aran weight yarn to best show off the texture.

I worked up my cardigan in Jill Draper Makes Stuff Empire. You might be familiar with these massive "yarn babies" from folks sharing photos at Rhinebeck - I used just one skein, and I have over 100g left over to knit up an accessory project or two! Empire also comes in a mini version so you can purchase the exact quantity you need. If you're looking for a substitute, search for aran or heavy worsted weight yarn that recommends a gauge of 3.5-4 sts/inch (14-16 sts/4"). This cardigan is worked up right in the middle at 15 sts/4", and I used a US 8 to achieve gauge - though several of my preview knitters needed to go up to a US 9 to get the same result!
